FAQ

Q: What is the quality of a MiaDonna Diamond Simulant?

The MiaDonna is guaranteed to come in a D to F in color, VVS1 to VS2 in clarity and rate a 1 to 2 on the AGS cutting scale or otherwise described as an excellent to very good cut. Only 1 in 1,000 earth mined diamonds will ever achieve the same cut grade as every MiaDonna. The index of refraction of an earth mined diamond is 2.42 and the fire light dispersion is 0.044. Because the MiaDonna has an outer layer of infused diamond, its index of refraction (2.42) and Fire/light dispersion (0.044) is optically identical to that of a natural diamond making our hybrid stone the most realistic simulated diamond ever created.

Clarity Scale

These are among the best grades you can get. Earth mined diamonds of this cut, color and clarity would cost $8,000.00 or more PER CARAT.

Color: Color describes the amount of color the diamond contains. This can range from colorless to yellow with slight tints of yellow, gray or brown. Colors can also range from intense yellow to brown, blue, green, pink and red. It is very rare and extremely expensive to find colorless earth mined diamonds. The MiaDonna Diamond perfectly mimics the diamond's crystal structure (face-centered-cubic) resulting in the virtually identical look of fine diamond. It grades F-G on average (the consensus of five gemologists) but new studies show our diamond hybrids are now becoming D to F on average.

Clarity

Clarity: Clarity describes the clearness or purity of a diamond. This is determined by the number, size, nature, and location of the internal (inclusions) and external (blemishes) imperfections. An earth mined diamond nearly always has a birthmark and now, so does the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid. Within the diamond layer we intentionally create "feathers" which gives the hybrid stone a more natural appearance. These feathers cannot be seen with the naked eye.

The clarity scale is broken down into the following grades:

Cut: We spend a lot of time and effort on our cut- it has to be perfect. The MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is hand-cut to precision and grades better in every aspect of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) diamond grading scale than most diamonds.

This level of cutting perfection will only ever be achieved once in every 1000 earth mined diamonds. For example, it takes our cutters 8 times as long to cut a MiaDonna Diamond Hearts and Arrow cut (H&A) as to cut a typical round natural diamond. While color and clarity are big factors in the cost of a diamond, it is the 'cut' that breathes life, beauty and dazzling brilliance into a diamond. The three diamonds shown below are all SI2 Clarity and G-H Color, but there is a big difference in their appearance, due to the quality of cut.

Hardness and Durability: This outer layer of created diamond once integrated with the core crystal gives the MiaDonna an over all hardness of 9.1. The outer layer hardness of MiaDonna's lab created diamond is approximately 9.6 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness with only a natural diamond measuring a 10.

The MiaDonna is moderately harder than a Ruby or Sapphire and considerably harder than an Emerald and twice as hard as a CZ. However it is not as hard as a earth-mined diamond, so we suggest it is treated like a ruby or sapphire.

The very CZ being offered by our competitor's regardless of their claims has a hardness of 8.5. The Mohs scale is ordinal meaning the actual hardness increases exponentially. In the end, the MiaDonna when compared to CZ is nearly two times harder and more durable.
