1) What is a MiaDonna Diamond?

Thank you for your interest in The MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid, the worlds first Diamond Hybrid.
I would like to introduce to you the biggest secret in the jewelry industry. Not since Mr. Mikimoto invented the ‘Cultured Pearl’ has the jewelry industry been so revolutionize. The MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is the world’s equivalent to the cultured pearl. It is made from diamond, which is why it possesses the same characteristics as an earth mined diamond.

We use solid gold or platinum for our magnificent settings, set with natural side diamonds. Finally, you can have the diamond ring you deserve receiving compliments galore. Yet for all their glittering beauty, the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is offered to you at a fraction of what an earth mined diamond would cost, with the same or better integrity, clarity, brilliance and luster as that of its natural cousin. The MiaDonna Diamond perfectly mimics the diamonds crystal structure (face-centered-cubic) resulting in a virtually identical look as fine diamond.

This amazing technology was first developed by NASA Scientists In the year 2000. They called this technology 'Ultra C' diamond. Ultra C diamond demonstrated the same quality and hardness as any earth mined diamond. Nasa had now found a way to create diamond crystals which was used to eliminate wear and tear on all moving parts in the extreme conditions of space.

MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids are truly in a class of there own and are even more beautiful than most earth mined diamonds on the market today. They are cut individually by hand and our diamond cutters take 8 times longer to cut a MiaDonna Diamond hybrid "hearts and arrows" cut than to cut a typical round earth mined diamond. Only 1 in 1 thousand earth mined diamonds will ever get to the same level of perfection of every single MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid. And of course our diamond hybrid is always guaranteed to be 100% conflict free.

All MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids can come with an official appraisal card of authenticity offered by a world reKnown Gemological laboratory rating the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid using the same qualifiers as earth mined diamonds. This is amazing because until now this has only ever been available to earth mined diamonds, and is a huge honour for the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid. Remember if it can't come with an official appraisal card - it is not made from diamond!

At MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid, domestic shipping with full insurance is always free with a 15 day money back guarantee.

The MiaDonna Diamond is the only diamond product in the world that uses the newest and patent pending form of “Amorphous Diamond”. This is the hottest and newest technology in the diamond world and has only been available since Aug of 2005.

So… How is it made?

Like with a cultured pearl, the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid starts with a core stone, we call this the seed. The seed is then wrapped and aligned with microscopic created diamond crystals. This is then put into a chamber of intense heat and pressure. This process then blasted the diamond crystals into the seed and they literally penetrate into the upper layer of the seed resulting in the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid to have an outer layer that is an infusion of diamond crystals. So… What you see and what you touch is diamond.

It is made from diamond which is why it has the same characteristics as diamond!

2) What is the quality of a MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid and Mountings?

Color:
Color describes the amount of color the diamond contains. This can range from colorless to yellow with slight tints of yellow, gray or brown. Colors can also range from intense yellow to brown, blue, green, pink and red. It is very rear and extremely expensive to find colorless earth mined diamonds.

The MiaDonna Diamond perfectly mimics the diamond's crystal structure (face-centered-cubic) resulting in a virtually identical look as fine diamond. It grades F-G on average (the consensus of five gemologists) but new studies show our diamond hybrids are now becoming D to F on average.

Clarity:

Clarity describes the clearness or purity of a diamond. This is determined by the number, size, nature, and location of the internal (inclusions) and external (blemishes) imperfections. Earth mined diamonds nearly always have a birthmark.
The clarity scale is broken down into the following grades:

*MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids represented in light grey.

Symbol Meaning Definition
F Flawless Free from all inclusions or blemishes
* IF Internally Flawless No inclusions visible at 10x magnification.
* VVS1 Very Very Slightly Included #1 Inclusions that are extremely difficult to locate at 10x.
* VVS2 Very Very Slightly Included #2 Inclusions that are very difficult to locate at 10x.
* VS1 Very Slightly Included #1 Minor inclusions that are difficult to locate at 10x.
* VS2 Very Slightly Included #2 Minor inclusions that are somewhat difficult to locate at 10x.
SII Slightly Included #1 Noticeable inclusions that are easy to locate at 10x.
SI2 Slightly Included #2 Noticeable inclusion that are very easy to locate at 10x.
II Included #1 Obvious inclusions. Somewhat easy to locate with the unaided eye.
I2 Included #2 Obvious inclusions. Easy to locate with the unaided eye.
I3 Included #3 Obvious inclusions. Very easy to locate with the unaided eye.

Durability:
Testing via the hammer smash test indicates that our MiaDonna Diamond is the toughest, most durable diamond product we have ever tested. On the Mohs hardness scale it scores approximately 9.6 to 9.8 on it outer diamond layer and approximately 9.1 on the whole stone including the center seed. (Natural diamond scores 10 as the hardest mineral.)

Cut:
The MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is hand-cut to precision and grades better in every aspect of the GIA diamond grading scale than most diamonds. Only 1 in 1000 diamonds will get this level of cutting perfection. For example, it takes our cutters 8 times as long to cut a MiaDonna Diamond Hearts and Arrow (H&A) as to cut a typical round diamond.

While color and clarity are big factors in the cost of a diamond, it is the 'cut' that breathes life, beauty and dazzling brilliance into a diamond. The three diamonds shown below are all SI2 Clarity and G-H Color, but there is a big difference in their appearance, due to the quality of cut.

SI2 Clarity, G-H Color, Fair Cut
(A deep cut usually makes
the diamond appear dark)
SI2 Clarity, G-H Color, Very Good Cut
(A proper cut unleashes the
fire and brilliance within a diamond)
SI2 Clarity, G-H Color, Fair Cut
(A shallow cut usually makes
the diamond appear opaque)

If cut is so important, why aren't all diamonds cut to a superior standard?

Both the cutter and the seller usually have a strong financial incentive to offer diamonds with inferior cut. When a rough diamond is cut to superior standards, about 50% of the stone's original weight can be wasted in the process. By cutting a diamond that is too deep or too wide, the same piece of rough yields a diamond of greater carat weight. Unfortunately, these diamonds are dull, milky, or dark in appearance.

This 1 carat rough can yield a
.50 carat diamond with excellent cut and
extraordinary brilliance, dispersion and scintillation, or...
The same 1 carat rough can yield a
.75 carat diamond with fair cut
that is dull and milky in comparison

The mathematical formula for a round diamond works like this: for a cut with exceptional brilliance (rated "very good" or better), the depth of the diamond will measure between 57% to 65% of the total diameter. In other words, a 1 carat diamond that is 6.5mm wide and 3.9mm deep will display an exceptional return of light to the viewer's eye.

Our Mountings:
MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid uses the same settings you would find the finest earth mined diamonds set in. We use the same solid 14k gold, 18k gold, palladium or platinum for its magnificent settings that you will find in jewelry costing 4, 5 and even 6 figures. We do not use plating over brass or steel that will wear off. You will always feel proud showing off your MiaDonna Diamond jewelry, receiving compliments galore. MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids are of the highest quality. All our side diamonds under .25ct are set with natural diamonds.

3) Are there any third-party reports or tests on the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid?

Yes there is. We have had our MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid evaluated by the world renowned GemEx™ Brilliancescope™ a GIA graduate gemologist's diamond grading report. The GemEx Report shows you diamonds from five different light views to simulate how a diamond looks in motion when you are wearing it. It then rates your diamond on the three key light performance components. These three components are white light (brilliance), color light (fire) and scintillation (sparkle). GemEx set the comparison scales for each shape by measuring tens of thousands of diamonds to determine the range of light performance possible in each component.

GIA Diamond Grading Report Results for the MiaDonna Diamond Round Cut:
Color: Flawless
Color F-G
Cut: Excellent
Proportion Excellent
Symmwtry Excellent
Polish: Excellent

Our H&A round cut maxed out the meter for fire (colored light return) and scintillation (sparkle), and scored in the top percentage for brilliance (white light).

Raman Microspectroscopy

We hired Interteck Northwest, an independent testing firm with global presence, to perform Raman analysis on both a v5 MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid and a natural diamond. The purpose was to show that the v5 MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid, with its amorphous diamond infusion, readily shows a diamond signature. Because both contain diamond bonds both the natural diamond and the v5 MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid spike at nearly the same frequency. This is something that no other diamond simulate can show, because no other simulate has this level of diamond bonds integrated into it’s composition. The MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is the only diamond simulate in the world that employs a form of amorphous diamond pure enough to easily register under standard Raman microspectroscopy. This is why we note that the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is the diamond worlds equivalent of the cultured pearl, because just as the cultured pearl has an inner non-precious core with an outer layer of nacre, the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid employs an inner non-precious core and outer layer of amorphous man-made diamond. 4) How to pick your type of metal?

When it comes to precious metals, it seems like most of us have a color preference--either yellow or white. That sounds like a narrow choice, but it isn't really, because there are lots of variations, especially in the "white" category.
There are several metals used in the creation of fine jewelry. By knowing information about the different metals, their benefits compared with each other and their unique qualities you will be able to make a better and more informed decision about purchasing your jewelry.

Below you will find information about each of the metal types we use, together with information about which metals are best for particular types of jewelry.

Gold Karat
There is several karats available for gold. The karat is the gold content of the metal. The karat measures the proportion of pure gold mixed with other metal alloy to make up the final metal.

The higher the proportion of gold used in the final metal, the more valuable and expensive the metal will be. So all other things being the same, an 18kt ring will be more expensive than a 14kt ring.

• 10kt gold contains 41.3% pure gold.
• 14kt gold contains 58.5% pure gold
• 18kt gold contains 75% pure gold.

The remainder of the metals is made up of a combination of alloys, different metals which can help to give the metal its unique appearance, such as a different color.

At MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids we use 14kt and 18kt for our gold settings. Each are relatively hard and durable metals and are suitable for use in all types of fine jewelry and is also suitable for use in jewelry that is worn on an every day basis. It is generally considered that 22ct and 24ct gold are too soft to be used to make wedding rings.

In practical terms, 18kt generally holds up to everyday wear better than 14kt as it ages over the years. This is one of the reasons why 18kt is normally preferred for ladies engagement rings rather than a low karat. 14kt and 18kt are each suitable equally suitable for use in dress rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets and necklaces. Many people choose 14kt for their earrings and pendants due to its lower price.

Palladium
Palladium is the newest trend in jewelry. The popularity of palladium jewelry is ever increasing as people hear about how it stacks up against white gold and platinum!
A rare silver-white transition metal of the platinum group, palladium resembles platinum chemically, it's silver-white, has a density of 12.

Alone or alloyed with silver or gold, palladium offers some of the same metal working properties as other jewelry metals, and remains tarnish free. It also offers jewelers a sharply different pricing point than either gold, white gold or platinum. It is more precious than silver and whiter than platinum. Because it is also lighter than platinum, nearly half the weight, more intricate necklaces and bracelets can be made capable of bearing larger gemstones with no gain in overall weight. For the same reason, Palladium can be an especially good choice in earrings. With the price of platinum and gold reaching recent highs, use of palladium for jewelry has seen renewed interest domestically and abroad. Of late, an increasing number of white precious metal alloys have been introduced into the jewelry marketplace in answer to industry cries for a true white counterpart to the ever-popular yellow gold. The search has been on for a workable white alloy that stays white, is hypoallergenic and priced more agreeably than the often prohibitive platinum.

Platinum
Platinum is regarded as the preeminent metal for fine jewelry. It is more rare and more expensive than gold. It is generally 95% pure and one of the only metals that is hypoallergenic (ideal for those with sensitive skin). It is a strong, dense metal and is just about twice the weight of gold. This weight is one of platinum's strongest selling points. In addition to its strength and density, platinum has another remarkable quality - pliability. Just one gram of the metal can be drawn to produce a fine wire over one mile (almost 2 km) long. This quality has enabled jewelers to create beautifully unique engagement rings. Platinum has rapidly grown in popularity in recent years, becoming the new choice for all types of jewelry.

Both gold and platinum are durable, sturdy and dependable metals. Either would make an ideal setting for your precious MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid jewelry. But no matter which metal you choose, always remember to keep your ring as clean and safe as possible.

Tungsten
Tungsten is the new metal for men, and we have it!. With style and strength Tungsten Carbide is a space age alloy with a distinctively masculine look and feel. Tungsten has an unmistakable dark gun metal grey color and an invincible high gloss that sits in a class apart from any other precious metal. Tungsten rings are heavy, and Tungsten Carbide is the hardest of all metals.

It is polished to a perfect mirror finish using diamonds, and, unlike other metals, it will retain the exact polish for decades to come. In fact, the only way to scratch a tungsten ring is with a diamond. No other material will affect it.

Because it has the highest melting point of any metal known, Tungsten is used in space age applications and leading edge military projects. The hardness and heat resistance of Tungsten is remarkable. It’s tough enduring qualities make it the perfect masculine metal for a man's ring.

5) How to pick your size of diamond?

To choose the best carat weight of diamond, consider your style, the size of your finger, the size of your setting, and your budget.

Please print the attached PDF to see the different carat sizes.

MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid can come in the following sizes.

Round Hearts and Arrows Cut - .25ct, .50ct, .75ct, 1ct, 2ct, 2.75ct.
Princess Cut - .35ct, .50ct, .75ct, 1ct, 2ct, 3ct.

We use small natural diamond for our side stones (e.g. .02ct, .06ct). Sizes this small are considered conflict free.

Please Note: All carat sizes/weights are approximate, actual millimeter diameters will vary for each diamond, based on exact decimal weight and cutting proportions. Every MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is cut individual and by hand, so some size and weight variants may happen. Because of the core stone the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid is a little heaver than earth mined diamond.

6) What is my ring size or How do I find the ring size of my loved one?

At MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids we realize that you may not know the ring size for a given finger, and we want to help. We provide a printable ring sizer that can help you determine your ring size. Click here to download the PDF. Prior to printing, ensure that page scaling is set to "none" on your print dialog box.

Here are some tips to make your ring size measurement more accurate:

- Confirm the printed paper size with a ruler.
- Pull tightly. The sizer must fit snugly to produce an accurate size.
- Don't measure cold fingers. This is when fingers are their smallest.
- For the most accurate reading, measure your finger at the end of the day when it is largest.

This is where it gets a little tricky! If the ring is for you, you can have your finger measured at any local department store that sells jewelry. If you are buying it for your loved one, then you may want to use one of these suggestions:

Borrow one of your partner's rings (from the correct finger) and use the Ring Sizer PDF on this website to determine the size.

Make an Impression
If she's in the habit of leaving any of her rings lying about, make an impression of one. A bar of soap, a piece of clay or even a piece of bread can be used to take a reliable measurement.

Trace the inside
You could even trace the inside of the ring on a piece of paper, which can be used to determine an accurate measurement.

Try it on for Size
Simpler still, just put one of her rings on your own fingers. Push it down as far as it will go and then mark the spot with a pen, or try to remember how far down it went. Then quickly go get that part of your finger sized!

Talk to her friends
A friend of your loved one can be of great assistance in this particular endeavor. It's not uncommon for one friend to ask another for their ring size as a matter of curiosity. But remember to pick the "secret-keeping" friend.

These will all be helpful tools that will send you on your way to the finding that PERFECT RING!

If all this fails we will be happy to send you a complimentary plastic ring sizer. Please send us an email with the following information and you will have your ring sizer in 7 to 10 business days.

8) How to pick the perfect gift?

The engagement ring
How do you know if she'll like the ring if she doesn't pick it out? If you consider her tastes and lifestyle, you'll be sure to make the right choice.

  1. Take a good look at the color of jewelry your partner wears. What color is the metal?
  2. Ask her friends or mother if she has mentioned a preference for a particular type or style of ring.
  3. Think about your loved ones lifestyle. Is she not used to wearing jewelry? If so, maybe consider a solitaire setting.

Engagements are rarely an out-of-the-blue surprise, so it is common to discuss engagement ring choices with your partner. The only way to ensure you find a ring that will match her taste and style is to shop for a ring together. Whether you're shopping together or not, start by finding her ring size.

Your engagement ring will arrive in a lacquered wooden box, ready for you to present to her on bended knee.

Just because you love her:

Still do not know:
How about a gift certificate? They are available in any amount you would like and is presented in our beautiful and stylish packaging – perfect for the undecided.

9) How do I take proper care of my MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid?

Like with an earth mined diamond…

You can swim, shower, etc. with no undue concern.  Be sure to remove your jewelry when engaging in activities that may prove hazardous to its health - i.e. rock climbing or other activities where you are likely to give your jewelry a nice whack or hard scratch.

  • Never put multiple diamonds together. Keep your jewelry separate.
  • MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids are susceptible to the same types of peril that could cause a natural stone to chip or crack.
  • Keep Lotions, perfumes, oils, cake soap etc. away from all your jewelry. TIP: Put a removable hook by your sinks to put your rings and jewelry.
  • Please use extra effort to keep your MiaDonna Diamond Hybrids clean to ensure maximum fire and brilliance.

At home cleaning:
The best way to clean your MiaDonna Diamond jewelry is to use, warm water, mild dish soap and a very soft (children’s) toothbrush. Allow your jewelry to soak in there for a few minutes - the hand dishwashing liquid will help dissolve the grease from body oils, which play a large part in trapping dirt onto your jewelry (esp. rings). With an old and soft toothbrush, gently(!) scrub the jewelry to break up trapped dirt.  Be sure to try to get the underside of your stone with the brush if possible.  Buildup on the underside of gems is what is responsible for adding a dull grey look to your stone. After that, rinse in water and pat dry.

Professional cleaning:
Your local jeweler can offer your MiaDonna Diamond jewelry a more thorough professional cleaning. They will either steam clean or ultrasound (or both) your jewelry. Neither will cause any problems. They will help in keeping your jewelry at peak brilliance.
