The Diamond Hybrid® is a simulant consisting of a non-precious crystal core with an infusion of Lab-Created Diamond on the outer layer. That is why we call it a "Hybrid." Since the Diamond Hybrid® is not 100% pure carbon, it does not share the same properties as a mined or lab grown Diamond and is only 8.2 on the Mohs Hardness scale, while lab grown and Earth-Mined Diamonds score a 10.
In 2005, when our founder was developing the technology for our pure carbon lab grown Diamonds we could only grow diamonds to a 0.25ct in size and they were yellow in color. So we developed a "hybrid" diamond as a placeholder until our technology for lab grown Diamonds was perfected.
