The History Behind Your Vintage Ring - Learn Antique Styles

With the launch of our newest Estate Collection full of beautiful Antique Style and Vintage Engagement Rings, it’s important you know the styles and trends that come with each era. Get to know your vintage ring below and learn more about the classic 19th century styles.

Georgian Era (1714-1837)

It’s quite rare to find an engagement ring from the Georgian era nowadays, but if you do, you’ll know it’s from this time due to the center stone, diamond cut, and intricate setting designs. The technology during this time was nothing compared to now, so the geologists and jewelers often stuck to table cuts and rose cuts for the center stone. The most commonly found stones for engagement rings during this time were diamonds, topaz, garnets, and sapphires. The designs often included floral or natural themes. From our new Estate Collection, the Grace Vintage Engagement Ring would be best suited during the Georgian era!

Victorian Era (1837-1900)

Inspired by the iconic Queen Victoria, this era surrounded royalty and the fashion trends stemming from the Queen herself. A Victorian era trend was to replace diamonds in engagement rings with birthstones. Solitaire engagement rings and motifs including snakes and hearts were quite popular. The Kalina Vintage Engagement Ring from our Estate Collection would be great during the Victorian era.

Edwardian Era (1900-1915)

Queen Victoria passed away in 1901, leaving King Edward to take her throne. Because of this, the Edwardian era emerged. Styles during the Edwardian period were very ornately detailed with diamonds and pearls being a consistent trend. Filigree and fine milgrain details were introduced during this period as well, making our Calla Vintage Engagement Ring a perfect fit for this era.

Art Nouveau Era (1890-1910)

Art Nouveau, deriving from “New Art” in French, came on the scene and introduced new styles of free, artistic expression and creativity in the form of jewelry. It was encouraged during this time to have hand craftsmanship, rich colors and nature themes. Our stunning Marvel Vintage Engagement Ring is truly unique and one-of-a-kind, ideal for showing off during the Art Nouveau era.

Art Deco Era (1915-1935)

Through the Roaring 20s is the Art Deco era. With a heavy focus on geometric shapes and designs, sapphires, rubies and white gold, this time brought bold and striking aesthetics. Art Deco era jewelry often is known to have a focus on clean lines and balanced geometric patterns. Our Delphine Vintage Engagement Ring with a lab grown blue sapphire gemstone is the perfect combination of an Art Deco style with a modern twist.
